How Eclipse works

What the launcher puts on your PC, what happens when you press Play, and how to remove it when you're done.

What gets installed

The installer sets up the Eclipse launcher for your Windows account. It needs no admin rights and doesn't start with Windows. Your settings, logs and sign in are kept in two folders:

  1. %LOCALAPPDATA%\BedrockClient
  2. %LOCALAPPDATA%\Dawn, which also holds any extra Minecraft versions the launcher installs for you

Eclipse also registers its share links, so a config or theme someone sends you opens straight in the launcher.

When you press Play

  1. Version check. The launcher checks your Minecraft version. If Eclipse needs a different one, it asks first, then installs it next to your normal Minecraft, which stays as it is.
  2. Account check. It confirms your account and gets the current version of the client.
  3. Start. It opens Minecraft and loads Eclipse into it. Press Right Shift in game for the menu.
  4. Out of the way. Once the game is running, the launcher closes itself. Nothing extra stays open while you play.

The client only runs when you start the game from Eclipse. Open Minecraft the usual way and you get normal Minecraft.

What it connects to

  1. geteclipse.net for your account, the client, and launcher updates.
  2. Microsoft when it installs a Minecraft version for you.
  3. GitHub for the list of Minecraft versions and LeviLauncher, the open source tool that installs them.

Your account

You sign in to Eclipse with Discord or email. Eclipse never asks for your Microsoft or Xbox password; Minecraft signs in the way it always does. With Discord, Eclipse gets your Discord ID and name, not your messages, friends or password. The privacy page has the full list.

Removing Eclipse

  1. Open Windows Settings, then Apps, then Installed apps. Find Eclipse and choose Uninstall.
  2. To clear your settings, logs and the extra Minecraft versions too, type %LOCALAPPDATA% into the File Explorer address bar and delete the BedrockClient and Dawn folders.

Your own Minecraft and your worlds aren't touched.
